DIMAPUR — The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has objected to the candidature of a female applicant for Nagaland state quota in NEET 2025 admissions, alleging that she is not an indigenous inhabitant of the state.

In a letter to the chief secretary, the NSF stated that the candidate—who scored 455 in NEET 2025 with an All India Rank of 1,13,803—hails from Haryana and does not belong to any recognised scheduled tribe of Nagaland.

While she has furnished a Kohima address due to her father’s posting as commanding officer of 1 Nagaland NCC, the federation maintained that her domicile is Haryana.

The NSF reiterated that the state quota for professional courses is reserved exclusively for candidates who are “Nagas by blood and indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland,” in line with existing policies and constitutional safeguards.

The federation warned that permitting such candidature would deprive deserving indigenous students of opportunities and set a “dangerous precedent.”

It further informed that it has initiated physical verification of documents for all state quota candidates, including scheduled tribe and indigenous inhabitant certificates, under the supervision of its education committee.

Urging the state government to disqualify the candidate, the NSF called for stricter verification processes to prevent similar cases in the future.
