Kohima, Oct. 28 (EMN): The Naga Student’s Federation (NSF) held a candlelight vigil and prayer, in solidarity with the Naga negotiators, for an ‘inclusive, honourable, and acceptable solution’ to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue.
Students, former leaders, federating units and subordinate bodies of NSF participated in the candlelight vigil, held at the NSF office in Kohima on October 28.
Speaking to reporters, NSF president Ninoto Awomi said that at this juncture where “most important talk is taking place”, the outcome of the meeting “is going to directly impact the entire Nagas”. Therefore, the NSF has extended its solidarity to the negotiators for a peaceful solution so that lasting peace and tranquillity prevails among the Nagas, he said.
Considering this ‘crucial Naga political journey’, he said that 'divine intervention' is the need of the hour. He added that the federation as well as the entire Nagas are anticipating a positive outcome from the talks.
“Even in the past there have been many solutions, but those solutions have not been able to bring lasting peace to the Nagas. The reason is because the government of India failed to address the core issue and then honourable and acceptable solution would mean unique solution, flag—that is our identity and that is a unique solution; and also an honourable solution would mean a solution much more than the past solution,” Awomi said.
He stated that the NSCN-IM and the government of India should have a “mutual understanding” and “reason with each other”.
The Lotha Students' Union (LSU) in Wokha town, under the directive of the NSF, also organised a candlelight vigil and prayer session on Monday, a press statement informed. The session began at around 5 pm at Police Point in Wokha town.
Libemo M Tsopoe, the president of LSU, while addressing the gathering, stated that the purpose of the event was to show "solidarity to our Naga negotiators for lasting peace and tranquillity to prevail in our homeland, and for inclusive, honourable and acceptable solution to the protracted Indo-Naga peace process”.
"Hundreds of students, well-wishers and LSU team attended the candle light session," it informed.
