The NSF has made a strong plea to the State government to immediately close down three institutes till such time they obtain ‘no objection certificate’ from competent authority and provide the required infrastructure as per the guidelines. The three institutes which the NSF wants immediate closure are Indian Institute of Para Medical Technology (IIPMT) Kohima, Institute of Management of Medical Research, Health Science and School of Nursing (IMMRHSN) Singrijan and Para Medical Training Institute (PMTI) Industrial Estate Dimapur. It also fervently appealed to the government and the department(s) concerned to initiate some rehabilitation measures or allow internship in some government institute in order to recognize the trainees/students and to legitimize their certificates.
In a representation to the Chief Secretary today, NSF president Tongpang Ozukum and general secretary Esther Rhakho reminded that as per the report submitted by the four-member Inspection Team constituted by the government, these three institutes lack the required and necessary infrastructure and faculty and most importantly, recognition from the competent regulatory bodies like Indian Nursing Council and Para Medical Council of India.
“As such, basing on the findings of the Inspection Team, the then Chief Secretary of Nagaland, on 11th Jan 2012 has directed the 3 Institutes to obtain necessary approval/ permission from the concerned regulatory bodies within one (1) year time, failing which the No Objection Certificate (NOC) given by the government of Nagaland will be withdrawn,” the representation said. These institutes were also directed not to admit fresh batches of students till necessary permission for running various courses is obtained, it pointed out.
The NSF also rued that even after the expiry of the 10 months deadline given by the government, no concrete measures or follow up action has been initiated by the government, thereby allowing the institutes to continue to run at the expense of the career and life of the students as the trainees of theses institutes are not allowed to avail government job.
