NSDMA to conduct state-wide mock drill on November 2

DIMAPUR — Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, will conduct the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx), a state-wide mega mock exercise, on November 2.

The exercise will be conducted on an earthquake scenario with a magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter scale. The exercise is being carried out to test the capability of the state in responding to and managing any disaster, according to an update from NSDMA.

It informed that a siren bell would be sounded from the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Kohima at 9:03 am, further sirens would also be used by emergency vehicles participating in the drill. In this regard, NSDMA has appealed to the public not to panic but to cooperate for the smooth conduct of the exercise.

In view of the state-wide mega mock drill exercise on earthquake disaster on November 2, Kohima district held a tabletop exercise on Wednesday at the DC’s conference hall.

Speaking at the programme, the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, urged all the stakeholders to have clarity on their assigned responsibility and take the mock exercise seriously. He informed that the Nagaland Emergency Preparedness Exercise (NEPEx) is being organised state-wide to test the state’s preparedness and response in a real-time scenario.

The DC also informed the public not to panic when the siren is sounded but to cooperate for the said exercise.

The superintendent of police, Kohima, Bharat Laxman, who also spoke asked the stakeholders not to take the exercise as a normal annual event but give cent per cent seriousness by visualising the real-time situation when undertaking the mock exercise.

The assistant manager of NSDMA and nodal officer for Kohima district, Theja Zao, gave a brief introduction to the mock exercise and an overview of the incident response system (IRS).

The report stated that Kohima district would stage a simulated earthquake of 7.1 magnitude.
