Dimapur, April 3 (EMN): The Home department’s Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) advises the public to “vigilant” and “stay safe” as erratic weather conditions sweep across the region. The agency issued a note on Wednesday. ‘On April 2, the Northeast Indian region and a few districts in Nagaland such as Peren, Phek, Dimapur and Wokha experienced thunderstorms and winds accompanied by hailstones. The thunderstorms in parts of the mentioned districts damaged properties, and one life was lost by lightning at Ndunglwa village, Peren district,’ the agency stated.

‘The district disaster management authorities of the mentioned districts are presently assessing detailed damage reports. Though the thunderstorms in the Northeast regions will weaken, it is expected to intensify towards the end of the week due to persistent upper trough and wind convergence in the area,’ the note stated.

‘It is informed that continuous attention should be paid to the threat of thunderstorms, winds, heavy rains and lightning. The NSDMA advises the public to stay safe and vigilant at all times,’ the NSDMA added.
