NSDMA issues weather alert

Dimapur, May 2 (EMN): Nagaland is likely experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds at the speed of 30 to 40 kmph, and lightning “in the coming days,” according to an update from the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on Thursday. “Severe cyclonic storm ‘Fani’ likely to impact northeast…Heavy rainfall is also likely to occur in between May 3 and the 6th,” it informed. Nagaland, according to the NSDMA, would experience light to moderate rains throughout the week with rains picking up pace by the weekend. “By May 5 and the 6th, we can expect fairly widespread rain and thundershowers over most places and heavy to very heavy rains in isolated places.” It has urged citizens to be vigilant during this period. “Public are requested not to shelter under large trees and near the river banks to prevent unnecessary risk to life from lightning and flash flood.” The NSDMA has stationed one team of NDRF at CTI, Home Guard and Civil Defence, Toluvi, Dimapur for ‘rescue operation’, in case of emergency.
