DIMAPUR — The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a weather advisory forecasting light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning across several districts of Nagaland from June 16 to the 19th.
According to the NSDMA, thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places in Dimapur, Kohima, Phek, Zunheboto, Kiphire and Peren districts on June 16.
Other districts may experience light rain at a few places. Citizens have been advised to remain alert during thunderstorm activity.
On June 17, thunderstorms with lightning are expected at isolated places in Kohima, Wokha, Zunheboto, Mokokchung and Mon districts. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely in several districts, with localised rainfall activity expected across the state.
For June 18, the NSDMA has forecast thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places in Kohima, Wokha and Mon districts, while intermittent light to moderate rainfall may continue over many districts.

On June 19, thunderstorms with lightning are likely at isolated places in Dimapur, Kohima and Peren districts. The authority has also warned of heavy rainfall at isolated locations in Peren district.
Residents in vulnerable and low-lying areas have been advised to exercise caution due to the possibility of localized waterlogging and landslides.
While no widespread extreme weather event is anticipated, the NSDMA stated that isolated thunderstorms, lightning and localised heavy rainfall could pose risks to commuters and residents.
The public has been advised to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms, stay away from water bodies during lightning activity, and remain updated through official weather advisories.
