NSDMA conducts capacity building programme in Kohima

DIMAPUR — A two-day capacity building on the Urban Disaster Risk Management Programme was organised by Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home department, in collaboration with the 9th Kohima Town Assembly Constituency on March 7 and 8, at the conference hall of the Cathedral of Kohima.

Held with the objective of enabling the representatives of the ward members under Kohima Municipal to develop an urban disaster risk management plan or ward disaster management plan, MLA Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhütso attended the inaugural programme as the special guest, according to a press release.

The inaugural program, chaired by Dr. Keviseto Kintso, commenced with an invocation led by Fr. Alex Tep. A brief introduction to disaster management was delivered by Johnny Ruangmei, joint CEO of NSDMA, followed by a special song performed by Diethozo Medeo and a speech from the special guest.

In the first session, Khrolou Koza Lohe, assistant manager (training and education) at NSDMA, presented an overview of disaster management. This was followed by a demonstration on first aid conducted by the Indian Red Cross Society.

A total of 200 participants, including 45 students from Class 9 of Little Flower Higher Secondary School and 15 SDRF jawans, had registered for the training.

On the second day, the program commenced with a brief recap by Yanger Temjen, followed by a presentation on the City Disaster Management Plan (CDMP) by Khrolou Lohe and a group activity.

The session concluded with an introduction to fire safety by the Fire and Emergency Services, led by sub-inspector Thejasetuo Keditsu.
