SHILLONG, December 4
THE National School of Dram (NSD), the foremost school in theatre training in the world and the only one of its kind in India is set to hold the first leg of the Poorvatar (NE) Natya Samorah in the town of Tura from December 6 to 10, 2014. The event, which is already being talked about is set to showcase budding talents within the country with a special focus on the North East.
NSD was set up by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in 1959 as a constituent unit and became independent in the year 1975 and is now fully financed by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India and works as an autonomous unit.
This year, three cities and towns of various north eastern states including Tura in Meghalaya and Guwahati and Sivasagar in Assam will host the north east leg of the NSD’s events.
“It is a fact that such festivals provide an insight into the minds of the young people engaged in theatre. They also get an opportunity to see skillfully crafted plays from different regions and in different forms and languages. For the last 5-6 years the ‘Poorvottar Natya Samaroh’ has been creating such platforms, where one can view rich and wide range of theatre from across the country and develop dialogues and interactions that help better understanding of the diversity of our country”, said the manager of public relations of the NSD, AK Baura.
“We hope the 7th edition of the event of NSD provides a platform for such interaction that opens a gate in our minds,” added the production manager of NSD, Parag Sarmah.
The event will host five films including ‘Mohe Piya’, ‘Sidhi Dar Sidhi Urf Tukke pe Tukka’, ‘Jamleela’ in Hindi, ‘Chitrapata’ in Kannada and ‘Oedipus’ in Bengali.
