Another year of CF extension with GPRN/NSCN

SUJIT/EMN DELHI/DIMAPUR, APRIL 27 The Central government has signed a ceasefire agreement for a one year term starting from April 27 with the newly formed NSCN (Reformation) group of Nagaland. The ceasefire will cover only within Nagaland, sources said. NSCN (Reformation) group led by Wanting Naga is a breakaway faction of NSCN (Khaplang) group. A seven member delegation of the group met a team of officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Defence on Monday in New Delhi. The Central government team was led by the Home Ministry’s Special Secretary (Internal Security) Ashok Pradhan and JS (NE) Shambhu Singh besides other top officials including Ceasefire Monitoring Group (CFMG) chairman N K Singh. According to sources, members in the NSCN(R) will surrender their ID cards (that of NSCN-K) to the government. Thereafter, the government will issue the ID cards to them in the name of their outfit’s tag i.e. NSCN(R). Talking to the Vision Communications Wangtin Naga expressed his happiness over the ceasefire agreement and hoped that “we believe in reconciliation process and work hard to achieve this. We don’t believe in violence.” Wangtin Naga also asked for setting up of designated camps for them by the government. The MHA si in the process of deciding the actual number of designated camps to be granted to the new group. Meanwhile, New Delhi has approved Ponghong camp as the NSCN(R)) designate camp which is located Tizit in Mon district In today’s meeting, the NSCN(R) delegation was led by Wangtin Naga. P Tikhak, ‘Col.’ Wanglon Konyak, Kilonser Thepofevo Chakhesang, secretaries Sangso Mongzar and Wangpai and Lemba, a member also participated. The Joint Secretary (NE) Shambhu Singh too expressed satisfaction. On a query, Shambhu Singh asserted, “If the Khaplang faction tries to disturb the law and order, they will be dealt with sternly according to the law of the land.” The afternoon of Monday also witnessed an extension of ceasefire with GPRN/NSCN. This faction of NSCN too expressed happiness with the meeting and said that their three demands to the MHA had been met. Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) convenor of the NSCN ( Khole-Kitovi) Zack Zimomi said that they have four designated camps at present and have asked for two more designated camps. (Vision Communication) Ceasefire not extended with NSCN-K Ceasefire was not extended between the government of India and the NSCN-K. Sources said no representative from the NSCN-K came to the venue of meeting in New Delhi today. The NSCN-K has unilaterally abrogated the ceasefire with New Delhi weeks ago. With this development it can be considered now that there is no more ceasefire between the NSCN-K and the government of India.
