Dimapur, Dec. 22 (EMN): Continuing with the war of words, Wangtin Naga-led NSCN (R) has accused Akato Chophi of being a habitual defector, who had worked for his ‘personal gain and satiate his selfish interest’ in the garb of national movement.

A NSCN (R)’s statement through its MIP secretary stated that Akato’s attempt to join the group since April 2015 was denied by its collective leadership and was finally enrolled in 2017 despite objections from the other leaders within the NSCN (R) and also from the NNPGs.

It stated that his plea for a collective leader status was duly accepted, keeping in mind the contribution of the Sumi community. It added that his desire to look after the affairs of chaplee (finance) was also granted in good faith so that he might run the affairs of the government as his own and look at the welfare of all the workers. It however alleged that Akato was back to his ‘old habit of lying and deceit’ with the passage of time.

NSCN (R) stated that its leaders were forced to detract the ministry of chaplee from him alleging that he had amassed wealth for himself and his relatives but negated the welfare of the NSCN workers.

“Is he serving NSCN only for finance? Or else what is the reason for his resentment? His sincerity and integrity is highly questionable. Rest it is left to the wisdom of the Nagas to judge for themselves who is what. It is also a warning bell to every group to never encourage a man who is out to commercialise Naga political issues,” it added.

NSCN (R) also stated that it never forced him or asked him to leave but he himself on his own volition chose to stray away. It, therefore, stated that the question of impeachment does not arise.

At Lakpong designated camp, NSCN (R) advised Akato to get his homework done more carefully before coming to public and stop poking his nose ‘when he can do no good for Nagas elsewhere.’

It further stated that NSCN (R) would not issue any statement anymore in this regard but abide by the decision of the joint council meeting.
