NSCN (Niki) affirms to protect traditional and religious values
DIMAPUR — Niki Sumi-led NSCN/GPRN has affirmed not to allow external elements to replace the Naga traditional religious values with unrighteous and unethical ways of life.
NSCN (Niki) was responding to reports on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ), a culture alien to Naga society, of trying to make a foothold in the Naga society to corrupt and tow away the minds of the people especially the younger generation from their cultural and religious beliefs.
“Culture and practices of the outside world have time and again attempted to influence the Naga society by promoting unhealthy behaviours, unrighteous and unethical ways of life which contradicts moral, cultural and religious values of the Naga people,” a press release issued by NSCN (Niki) through its MIP stated on Sunday.
Terming LGBTQ as an alien culture to the Naga society and something that was never heard of among the people, the NSCN group stated that it not only pose a serious threat to the moral ethics of the Nagas but also against the teaching of Christianity. It, therefore, stated that NSCN group would not be blinded and allow external elements to replace the traditional and religious values with unrighteous and unethical ways of life.
“The Nagas, as Christians, shall not tolerate people (non-locals) coming from elsewhere trying to destroy the fabric of our society. Nagas including the churches must be ever vigilant about such evil forces trying to destroy the existence of our society and also educate and counsel the younger generation who are potentially vulnerable to such bad influences,” the statement read.
In the interest of safeguarding the society, the NSCN directed those non-locals, who have come from elsewhere propagating and encouraging LGBTQ, to leave Naga inhabited areas within three days time. It warned that NSCN would not be held responsible for any negative reaction that might occur owing to failure to comply with the directive.
