DIMAPUR — The NSCN-K (Khango–Vusshe) on Wednesday claimed responsibility for the abduction of Kiyeto Zhimomi alias Kits Zhimomi, Head GB of Vikuho village and president of the Railway Courier Union, which took place on January 19.
Addressing journalists at the Ceasefire Supervisory Board (CFSB) office here, NSCN-K (Khango–Vusshe) MIP Kilonser Hokashe Muru said that the abduction was carried out under a “standing order” over alleged financial irregularities.
He claimed that the group was initially unaware that Zhimomi’s official name was Kiyeto, stating that he was known in business circles as “Kits”, and that they learnt he was a Gaon Bura only after detaining him.
Muru alleged that Zhimomi had collected taxes from railway firms on behalf of the group but failed to remit the amount for over 18 months.
He claimed the outstanding dues were estimated at INR 40–50 lakh, but said the group settled for INR 30 lakh.
Muru maintained that the agreement was signed willingly by Zhimomi and denied that it was obtained under duress.
According to him, the settlement amount was reduced following appeals from civil society organisations, including the Western Sümi Kukami Hoho and the Western Sümi Youth Front.

Admitting to forcibly stopping Zhimomi’s vehicle, Muru said that the window was broken to extract him and acknowledged that Zhimomi was struck “once or twice” on the limbs.
He claimed that this was due to what he described as Zhimomi’s “provocative actions” during transit. He added that blindfolding was used as part of standard security protocol.
Muru denied reports that Zhimomi was detained or assaulted at the CFSB office, stating that he was held at a different location and released on January 20.
The NSCN-K (Khango–Vusshe) also levelled counter-allegations against Zhimomi, describing him as a “kingpin” in alleged illegal poppy seed and areca nut trade.
Muru claimed that the group possessed evidence linking Zhimomi to stolen vehicle rackets and alleged that he had collaborated with security forces to target NSCN cadres.
He further stated that Zhimomi’s dealings with ‘Vicca Chophy’ were personal in nature and were under internal investigation by the group.
NSCN-K (Khango–Vusshe) finance secretary H Kiba, who was also present at the press conference, denied involvement in the abduction.
According to him, he had approached Zhimomi earlier regarding tax compliance but handed the matter over to higher authorities after talks failed.
Responding to queries on the alleged defection of cadres from the Neokpao and Alezo-led GPRN/NSCN (Unification), the group claimed that 26 members had joined them voluntarily and dismissed allegations of photo manipulation.
On the state home minister’s warning against misuse of CFSB office, Muru said that the office operates with government of India’s approval and adheres to prescribed rules regarding arms and personnel.
