Dimapur, Dec. 12 (EMN): One hardcore cadre of NSCN (L) was reported killed in a major operation launched by the Khonsa battalion of security forces near Tissa village under Longding district in Arunachal Pradesh on December 11.

The security forces launched the operation following specific intelligent information about NSCN (K) cadres carrying out extortion from villagers in Tissa. The Khonsa battalions swiftly launched an operation in the afternoon of December 11 after identifying the suspected house.

On approaching the house, the column noticed two suspected cadres trying to flee the scene. On being challenged to surrender, the fleeing militants opened fire on the column. In the retaliatory fire, one cadre was killed while the other cadre managed to escape under cover of dense foliage.

During search, the troops recovered a Colt pistol, radio set and other incriminating evidence from the slain cadre. The search of the area for the escaped militant was still in progress and identity of the neutralised cadre is being determined.

A security force press release stated that NSCN (K) and ULFA cadres are carrying out extortion activities in the region since the beginning of November.
