Dimapur, Feb. 24 (EMN): The Naga Council Dimapur has appealed to the NSCN (IM) to consider lifting the Sunday closure diktat in Dimapur immediately.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the council stated that the Sunday closure was not imposed in other district headquarters and towns of the state. “Imposition of the ban targeting the only commercial centre of the state on the principle of ‘Nagaland for Christ’ seems unreasonable.
“By such imposition, the entire consumers from Dimapur in particular have to spend in terms of lakhs of rupees in the bordering areas like Dillai Gate, Lahorijan, Khakhati and other adjacent markets under Assam just for the daily essentials every Sunday.
“The Naga Council, Dimapur is therefore fervently appealing the NSCN (IM) government to consider for immediate lifting of the ban imposed on Sunday markets in and around Dimapur especially on perishable food items including meats, fishes, poultries, green vegetables, etc. in the interest of all the general public,” it stated.
