NSCN (IM) to observe Naga Plebiscite Day

DIMAPUR — The NSCN (IM), in pursuance to its joint council meeting resolution of April 30, has decided to commemorate the Naga Plebiscite Day of May 16, 1951, with thanksgiving and prayer at the general headquarters church, Hebron.

A press release issued by the convenor of NSCN (IM) steering committee, Maj. (retired) Hutovi Chishi, urged all the NSCN members and GPRN functionaries to attend the celebration and be a part of the historic event.

He added that the political significance of Naga Plebiscite Day of May 16, 1951, had been bolstered by the Amsterdam joint communiqué of July 11, 2002, regarding recognition of the unique history and situation of the Naga people and Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015.

According to him, it demonstrated firstly, Nagalim was never a part of the Indian union or Myanmar either by consent or conquest and secondly, the Framework Agreement of August 3, 2015, had been signed based on the principle of sovereignty.

Since sovereignty constitutes identity of a nation, he, therefore, stated that the sovereign Nagalim national flag and the sovereign Nagalim national constitution are duly recognised and acknowledged in the letter and spirit of the Framework Agreement.

He further stated that it should the bounden duty of everyone to be steadfast in their commitment and uphold the sanctity of the national principle.
