It is total violation of Ceasefire Ground Rules: NSCN-IM

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, APRIL 20 A ‘sectional officer’ in the NSCN-IM hierarchy, was shot at by Nagaland police on Monday morning, allegedly, on charges of extorting cash from a brick kiln at Miya Bazaar, Khushiabill, Dimapur. According to sources, the accused person who has been identified as 35-year-old Atoshe Awomi, sustained bullet injuries on his leg when police opened fire while he was fleeing. He was treated afterwards at District Hospital, Dimapur. The source informed that the firing took place at around 11 am on Monday. Another person, reportedly his accomplice and whose identity could not be ascertained, was also arrested. When contacted, the public relations officer of Dimapur police said that the authorities were still in the process of collecting information and that complete details would be made available only on Tuesday. Meanwhile, NSCN-IM has strongly condemned the act of the Nagaland police. Speaking to Eastern Mirror, NSCN-IM Ceasefire Monitoring Cell (CFMC) convenor Kraibo Chawang said, “The ill motive and intention of Nagaland police is well understood.” He alleged that today’s incident was the total violation of the Ceasefire Ground Rules. The NSCN-IM leader demanded that the concerned authorities take appropriate action against the police personnel involved in the incident. Kraibo Chawang while condemning the incident further alleged that the police personnel came in civvies and that too in a private vehicle to attack the NSCN-IM ‘officer’. “They don’t want ceasefire. They don’t want peace and they don’t want solution,” said Kraibo Chawang.
