NSCN (IM) kilonser shot dead in Tizit

DIMAPUR — An NSCN (IM) kilonser identified as Khampei Opeihüm Konyak was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at his house in Tizit, Mon district, on Wednesday night at around 9-9:30 pm.

According to sources, six armed men barged into Konyak’s house at night and fired shots at him, critically wounding him. At the time of the incident, his wife, three children and another family member was at home.

Though the motive behind the assassination remains unknown, Konyak, who joined the NSCN (IM) in 2023, was reportedly the former chairman of Konyak region of the Yung Aung-led NSCN .

Sources said that the assailants, after shooting him, dragged Konyak’s body out of the house before they fled the scene. Konyak succumbed to his injuries while on the way to the hospital, sources added.

The identity of the assailants could not be ascertained till filing of this report. Attempts to reach the Tizit Police were unsuccessful.
