DIMAPUR — The Chaplee Ministry of NSCN (IM) has informed that a person, claiming to be a member of NSCN/GPRN Finance department and occasionally impersonating the finance secretary, has been threatening businessmen in Dimapur and Chümoukedima towns, demanding ransom money through contact number 9362620241 (registered in the name of Benrang Rengma).

In a press release on Sunday, the NSCN (IM) stated that the individual is providing a G-Pay number 6901043247 (registered in the name of Shamim Uddin) for the transactions. Some businessmen have reportedly succumbed to this extortion attempt, it stated.

It expressed deep concern that the image of NSCN/GPRN is being compromised and the name of the finance secretary defamed to an unacceptable extent.

“To put the matter straight before the public domain, this person involved in impersonation and identity theft is asked to report in person to the Chaplee Ministry Office within the stipulated time frame of 3 (three) days counting from the publication of this statement and clarify himself his bonafide standing before the Government.

“Failure to abide by this directive shall invite the inevitable action leading to his apprehension and followed by severest action as demanded by the enormity of his crime,” the release stated.

It went on to state that the matter has become very serious as the NSCN authorities have been provided with evidence of the individual impersonating the finance secretary and demanding ransom, and emphasised that this issue needed to be rooted out by any means possible.

“Impersonation and identity theft is a criminal offence, and thus, this kind of crime cannot be allowed to get away without making the criminals pay what he (they) deserves,” it added.
