Dimapur, Aug. 25 (EMN): The NSCN (IM) says that the government of India has ‘done a great job to assure the Nagas that they deserve solution that is nothing less than honourable and acceptable.’ That said, the group has also rued actions of the security forces in Dimapur.
The organisation’s ‘MIP’ issued a press release to the media on Sunday stating its contentions.
“Given the seriousness of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in solving the Indo-Naga political conflict, the Nagas await the historic day when the final agreement will be signed. When Modi asked Interlocutor RN Ravi to finish the talks with the Naga negotiators within three months, it becomes all the more interesting,” the press release stated.

This is the third time that the Modi-led BJP government has come out with ‘such an assuring tone,’ the group stated.
‘The government of India has done a great job to assure the Nagas that they deserve solution that is nothing less than honourable and acceptable. Giving official recognition to the unique history and situation of the Nagas is taken as the correct step towards this direction. This momentum finally led to the signing of the historic August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement,’ the press release stated.

That said, three years is a long period but the Framework Agreement is yet to have its fruition “as the government of India is going slow in taking its stand on core issues,” the group stated.

“How beautiful things would have been if Ravi could have made his presence after being appointed as Nagaland Governor by working in tandem with the Indian Army (Assam Rifles/AR) and rein on them to exercise restraint from what they are doing now.”

The NSCN (IM) stated that for more than four months, Assam Rifles personnel have stationed themselves at Doyapur near the group’s designated Hebron camp and “moving around in the nearby villages, frisking commuters and raiding houses with cameras in hand.” The organisation stated that the ‘villagers were harassed with uncomfortable questions giving them much mental unrest.’

“As days passed, AR have become more unruly and going towards the direction to sow seeds of another bloody conflict with the Nagas. Now, leaving aside Doyapur areas, the AR personnel are seen in many areas of Dimapur frisking passerby and entering residential areas taking photographs,’ the press release stated.

The press release added that such actions by the Assam Rifles ‘makes the whole scenario unbecoming of Ravi’s search for the earliest solution as advised by Prime Minister Mr. Modi.’ The group has denounced the AR ‘for the unwarranted frisking operations’ in Dimapur.
