DIMAPUR, JUNE 2: The 18th Assam Rifles have informed to have apprehended a cadre of the underground group NSCN (IM) following extortion and threats against citizens in Peren district. An armed cadre of the group’s “armed military wing,” a self-styled “private” Gongdau, was apprehended by the security forces on May 29, the AR stated in a note to the media on Thursday. The person was involved in extortion and intimidating locals near Kepuijang junction in Peren, the army stated. A 7.65 mm pistol, ammunition, besides moie devices and extorted money and incriminating documents were recovered from him, the security force stated. Also, three persons claiming to be cadres of “National People’s Government of Nagaland” of the NNC Non Accordist were arrested on Thursday by Dimapur police on charges of harassing members of the business community and public demanding “tax.”
The three cadres were intercepted from the Pudumpukhuri area following reports of their movement on June 2 at around 6 p.m. The accused persons have been identified as “secretary UT-1” Tokaho Chophy (31), “lt” Simon Aye (20) and “lt” Abel Swu.
Police sources informed that a .32 pistol and 7 live rounds and magazine; .22 pistol with two live rounds and a magazine and a magazine of 9mm pistol were found in their possession. They were intercepted while travelling in a Maruti Wagon R bearing the registration NL01C 0167.
Besides, police recovered five letterheads belonging to the ‘NPGN (NNC-NA)’ and 32 extortion notes, besides two rubber seals apparently bearing the name of ‘kilonser’ and ‘CAO UT-1’ from the accused. The persons have been lodged at East Police Station.
