Dimapur, Nov. 13 (EMN): The NSCN (IM) has ‘strictly banned’ the use of firecrackers and other fireworks during the festive season.
The group's ‘ministry of forest and environment’ issued a press release on Saturday informing that logging and random felling of trees in reserved forest and community protected forest are also ‘strictly banned’.
“The unethical method of fishing and hunting using poisonous chemicals, dynamo and explosives is being viewed very seriously, rather our traditional methods of hunting and fishing should be applied as this prevent excessive killings and thereby wastage. To protect our fauna from avoidable extinction, the sale of wild animals shall stand restricted throughout Nagalim.
“With the advent of winter season there is tendency to go for reckless burning of forest by individuals and villages. This should be rationalised as burning of forest affect our environment directly which subsequently unbalance our ecological system. It is noticed that there is random excavation of local sands, boulders and gravels from river beds. This should be stopped forthwith as it is damaging our environment,” it stated.
