NSBS&G’s Silver Elephant Award for Dr Shurhozelie

The 36th state council meeting of Nagaland State Bharat Scouts & Guides (NSBS&G) was held at the Life Member’s Building Conference Hall, Bharat Scouts & Guides Kohima on Friday. Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu in his outgoing presidential address said his experience on being a life member and president of NSBS&G found the movement most peaceful and noble because of the willingness to serve, the spirit to help one another and the spirit to take up responsibilities for others any time.
He also compared the hospitality, politeness and respect for elders of the Nagas to that of the principles of the movement. He reminded the members to increase the enrollment of members to the movement to every corner of the State so as to achieve the goal in helping society and humanity.
He concluded that Scouts and Guides movement should inculcate its principles in the mind of the young people so that they can become better responsible citizens who can bring change to the society for the better.
The annual report for the year 2012-13 informed that there are a total of 2842 Scouts & Guides in Nagaland according to the census of Scouts & Guides 2012. The annual report also informed that Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu who is a life member and former president of NSBS&G will be receiving the Silver Elephant, the highest award for the Bharat Scouts & Guides for meritorious service to the movement from the President of India on September 9.
Two Rashtrapati Guides have also been produced from Kohima district. Asenla Jamir of Little Flower Higher Secondary School and Diethovino Khatso of Mezhur Higher Secondary School will also receive the awards from the President of India.
The 36th state council meeting also inducted five new vice presidents for the next 3 year term. Sano Vamuzo, V Hekali Zhimomi and Seyiekuolie were elected as vice presidents while Director Youth Resources & Sports and Director School Education (Elementary) were nominated by designation as the vice presidents. Khyomo Lotha was also re-elected as the State Chief Commissioner. Vice Patron and Returning Officer, Nini Meru conducted the election proceedings. Four new members of finance were also elected.
Reaffirmation of promise by Director School Education (Elementary) and Seyiekuolie as the vice presidents was conducted by state organising commissioner (Scouts) John Tochimong. The programme was chaired by vice president Povotso. It is worthwhile to note that minister for School Education, CM Chang was inducted as the president of NSBS&G.
