Dimapur, July 4 (EMN): While reminding the larger mission of RN Ravi, the governor of Nagaland and interlocutor for Naga peace process, the Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) has urged him to prioritise solving of the vexed Indo-Naga issue during his tenure.
While appreciating the governor for overall development of the state, particularly on roads, health and education and his sagacity in dealing with sensitive Naga issue, the NPRAAF, in a representation, urged to ‘develop healthy relationship between the office of constitutional head and head of government’ in view of the controversy and trust deficit that has built up as a result of his letter to the chief minister.
Terming his contribution to Indo-Naga peace talk as ‘phenomenal,’ NPRAAF stated that it was only him who made the historic signing of ‘Framework agreement’ in August 2015 possible. It went on to say that the wisdom applied to make the breakthrough on the six-decade-old issue and after two decades of Indo-Naga peace talks was considered extraordinary achievement.
It, however, stated that his letter to the chief minister had diminished Nagas’ optimism of a final solution, ‘which has been hanging in the fire for the last eight months since the deadline to take it or leave it made to the negotiating party expired on October 31, 2019, over the issue of Pan-Naga identity, separate flag and a constitution’.
NPRAAF also reminded that rampant fratricidal killings in the late 80s and early 90s have ceased and ushered peace in the state following ceasefire between the government of India and the Naga political groups.
While acknowledging that corruption and extortions have always been there in the state just as in many other states of India, NPRAAF however stated that police and para-military forces have brought down the scale drastically. It, therefore, asserted that it would be wrong to usurp the power of legitimately and democratically elected government on the pretext of collapse of law and order and corruption.
In this regard, NPRAAF has appealed to the government to ‘disengage in power struggle with your government but shift priority task of solving Indo-Naga imbroglio’. It further stated that people of Nagaland would eternally remain thankful for his unprecedented effort of bringing ultimate solution to the Indo-Naga political issue.
