NPP Phek demands termination of Kohima-Jessami road contract over safety concerns
DIMAPUR — The National People’s Party (NPP) Phek district has asked the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to take immediate action on the perilous condition of the Kohima-Jessami road package-II.
In a press release on Friday, the party highlighted the imminent danger of rockfall along the stretch between Chakhabama and Kikruma near the Sedzü River, posing a grave threat to commuters.
Despite numerous pleas from organisations and individuals, the contractor, M/S Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., has allegedly ignored public safety concerns, it said.
Pointing out that the entire Kohima-Jessami road package-II has been in a deplorable state for a prolonged period, causing immense hardship to commuters, it said the contractor’s inaction was disrespectful and an insult to the public.
Citing the contractor’s continued negligence and the unbearable road conditions, the NPP Phek called upon the NHIDCL to take immediate action.
It specifically demanded the termination of the existing contract, as recommended by the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) Phek district in its order dated June 13, 2024.
The party urged the NHIDCL to initiate a fresh tender process without any further delay to ensure the safety of commuters and the timely completion of this crucial road project.
