Imphal, June 21 (EMN):
National People’s Party (NPP), Manipur unit, which is one of the main allies in the three-year old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led coalition government, on Sunday categorically placed on record the key reasons behind withdrawing their support to the government.

Four NPP MLAs, who are ministers in the coalition government, withdrew support along with one MLA each from All India Trinamool Congress and an Independent, while three BJP MLAs resigned both from the party and membership of Manipur Legislative Assembly two days ahead of Rajya Sabha polls on June 17.

In a press release on Sunday, president of NPP Manipur Thangminlien Kipgen said the BJP led government was formed in 2017 with five political parties. He has accused the N Biren Singh-led government of running in an autocratic manner and refusing to form a steering committee in order to instil confidence amongst the coalition partners despite their repeated reminders to the chief minister.

Alleging that no common minimum programme could be materialised in spite of “repeated reminder,” it stated that no name was given to the coalition government of five political parties.

Stating that no consultations were made with coalition partners while taking decision, the release claimed that BJP had forgotten the existence of NPP and the role it played during formation of the government in 2017.
On the allotment of ministerial portfolios, NPP president said, “I was neither consulted nor informed with regards to allotment/ removal of portfolios to the ministers of my party.”

Expressing unhappiness over the alleged objectionable statement made by S Rajen Singh, BJP state spokesperson and a sitting MLA, relating to the distribution of rice under National Food Security Act which led to an altercation with the deputy chief minister, it said, “As partners in the BJP-led government headed by N Biren Singh, my party was not invited/ consulted to share our views/ ideas to decide on a consensus candidate.”
