DIMAPUR — A Nyamnyei Konyak, state president of the National People’s Party (NPP), and the rank and file of the NPP extended greetings to the Garo community of Nagaland on Wangala.
The party prayed in a press release that ‘Misi Saljong’, the sun god of fertility, bless the community with a bountiful harvest.
Further, Konyak expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to be the special guest at the Wangala festival celebrated by the Garo community on Tuesday at Ekranipathar village, Dimapur.
“It was a fascinating experience to learn about the traditional practices, indigenous games, traditional dances, wrestling, stone lifting, bamboo pole pushing, tug of war (budu sala), and to witness the colourful traditional dakmanda (traditional dress of Garos) with the feathered headdress on the old and young people of Garo community,” he said.
He added that Wangala is a great opportunity for all, particularly the young generation of the community, to learn about the age-old customs and practices and ensure that the practices are handed down from generation to generation and celebrated in the same spirit.
