DIMAPUR — Working President of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), Dr. Huskha Yepthomi passed away on Tuesday night after a brief illness at Zion hospital and Research Centre, Dimapur. He was 83.

Hailing from Yemishe village in Zunheboto district, from an early age, Yepthomi took on various leadership roles in several student organisations, before joining the Naga national movement in 1965.

In the year 1969, he came ‘overground’ and went on to serve in various organisations including the Sumi Baptist Association (SBAK), Mokokchung Regional Council, and the United Democratic Front, Naga National Democratic Party, etc., throughout the 1970s and 80s.

After serving as the general secretary of Naga People’s Council (State Level) from 1992 to 1996, he also took on the role of the Sumi Hoho president from 1977 to 2001.

Besides this, Yepthomi also took active part in several NGOs and was appointed as the NPF’s vice president, holding the post from 2003 to 2011, alongside other responsibilities in the party.

From 2011, he was elected as the working president (in-charge of Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, and Assam), a post he held till his passing on Tuesday.

He was also the incumbent GB of Yemishe village.

NPF Minority Wing condoles

Mourning his demise, the NPF Minority wing described Yepthomi as “one of the tallest Naga leader.”

“The entire party ranks and files of NPF were shocked by the news of Dr Hushka’s death; it is a great loss for the party in particular and for the State in general,” it said in a statement, while conveying condolences to the bereaved family.
