Dimapur, May 28 (EMN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) has accused the ruling PDA government of ‘utter negligence’ in tackling with the returnees from Tuensang district and urged the latter to take full responsibility instead of justifying it as communication gap.

NPF has questioned the motive of PDA government in sending the returnees from other states to Tuensang despite being fully aware that their test results were awaited, saying the very act had created fear and panic in the minds of the co-passengers including the general public.

“The government of the day must realised that the citizens of Nagaland cannot be taken for a ride anymore and no amount of justification and explanation would convince the intelligentsia of the citizens of Nagaland since it is an act of intentionally endangering thousands of lives of those of our citizens who are unfortunately in-accessible to modern medical facilities,” NPF’s statement through its press bureau stated on Thursday.

NPF also claimed that the sudden announcement of PDA government to install a BSL-2 laboratory only after the result of one of the returnees from Tuensang was tested positive, was nothing but a politics of appeasement which clearly reflected poor governance and cheap politics.

With the announcement to install BSL-2 at Tuensang, NPF has questioned on the number of days to be operational whereas the BSL-2 installation at Dimapur has not even become functional even after so many days of its announcement.

Also questioning on the reliability of BSL machines, NPF has urged the government to assure its citizens on the credentials of the BSL manufacturers and company that deals with such medical equipment. It also urged to the government to ensure that such a high-tech BSL machines be manned by well qualified trained professionals so that the safety of the healthcare workers is also ensured and the result of Covid-19 test conducted are also accurate without any iota of doubt.

NPF also went on to accuse the PDA government of miserably failing to handle the present pandemic from day one with false claim of preparedness. It claimed that nothing has been done on the ground in total contrast to the tall claim of the government. It stated that so-called ‘fully prepared’ claimed by the PDA government has been fully exposed by the Tuensang case, which has further vindicated the observation and opinion of the NPF.

“The poor preparedness of the PDA government coupled with ineffective way of tackling the present pandemic by the PDA government have probably prompted the Kohima Village Council (KVC) to go to the extent of even asking the government to evacuate all returnees to their respective districts,” NPF stated. It added that the views expressed by the KVC was a direct reflection of how unprepared the PDA government was in tackling the present pandemic.

While urging the government to pave way for an alternative arrangement, NPF further iterated that the longer PDA government continues to stay in power, the more hardship it would be for the citizens of Nagaland.
