DIMAPUR, JANUARY 7

The president of the Naga People’s Front’s minority wing Bishnu Bhattacharjee has suffered injuries following a vehicular accident on January 4 in Peren district. The NPF leader has attributed the mishap to the most neglected sector in Nagaland – roads.
Almost every road and highway in Nagaland continues to be a disease for citizens of the state even as the Government of Nagaland continues to look the other way, for years now. He was in Peren for an event organized by a local organization called the Rani Gaidinliu Vaidic Gurukulam in Azailong village. Bhattacharjee had attended as chief guest of the program which was staged in commemoration of Rani Gaidinliu. On his way back from Azailong to Dimapur, the organization informed in a note on Wednesday, his vehicle, a Mahindra Scorpio, rolled down a slope before coming to rest against a tree. The incident took place at around 12 noon at Azailong, the source informed.
“The vehicle was badly damaged but all the passengers were safe with little injuries. President expressed that the road condition is pathetic and it is also very narrow to pass two vehicles at a time and it should be improved for safety of travelers,” the organizers stated in the note.
“He said without that tree, the accident could have been worse and he could have rolled further down the slope around another 1000 feet but God saves their life,” the organizers added.
