PHE Minister Noke Konyak today issued a clarification against reports appearing in some local dailies (not Eastern Mirror) about his refusal and declination to accept the post of Chief Minister as and when the post becomes available with the incumbent Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio having contested the Lok Sabha polls.Minister Konyak said the surmised reports are misleading since the NPF party has neither formally discussed nor proposed any candidature for the post of Chief Minister till date. He said this will be necessitated as and when the party decides. Hence, the issue of being or not being interested or declining and refusing the post is out of the question, he said. Reports of him not enjoying the support of the ENLU as a consensus candidate for the top post in the state is “baseless and irrelevant”, Konyak stated. The ENLU members, the Minister claimed, are strongly united and will take a unanimous decision in the interest of the party, Eastern Nagaland and Nagas in general.
The Minister said as a senior most NPF legislator not only amongst the ENLU but in the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, he would request for caution from the media when sensitive matters with potential to disturb the peaceful environment in the state are reported. Authenticity of facts from the sources is crucial in the current political issue, he added.
