Kohima, Oct. 30 (EMN): The working committee of Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Friday decided to leave it to the 'wisdom' of the party legislature wing to take appropriate steps for formation of a common platform ‘to carry forward the Naga political issue collectively’.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting in Kohima, the secretary general of NPF, Achumbemo Kikon, said the decision was based on ‘request from various individuals, organisations and those at the helm of affairs’ for the NPF legislators to have a common platform with the rest of the MLAs.
Kikon said the party had also adopted a series of resolutions during its meeting.
He stated that “as far as the NPF Political Affairs Mission (PAM) is concerned, it will function as it is. The question of going back to the Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) does not arise”.
He added that party legislators would insist on coining a ‘new nomenclature that would be befitting’. He said the NPF as a party is 'clear on its stand and work' and will do so with any organisation and individual who are for ‘honourable, acceptable and inclusive solution’.
Kikon informed that the party will in no way stand against leaders of the opposition meeting with anyone for the cause of the Naga political issue.
He added that the party has resolved to appeal to NSCN (IM) and working committee of NNPG to 'sit across the table for mutual understanding'. He reiterated the party's stand for ‘one solution, one accord’.
Meanwhile, Kikon also stated that the party is confident of winning the 14-Southern Angami-I assembly constituency bye-election.
“Our candidate Kikovi Kirha’s position is secured; people are with us because we have presented the issues that confront our people on this bye-election,” he said.
Kikon also clarified that the party has not issued any official directive to its workers in 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency.
According to him, even in 14-Southern Angami-I, the party is fighting on its own. “This time around, we have decided not to align or realign with any other individual or any other political parties,” he said.
