Dimapur, August 21 : The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee’s goodwill team headed by NPCC working president Ayang Aonok toured Kiphire and Tuensang districts from August 16 and held separate consultative meetings with leaders from different tribe organisations including women, youth and student bodies.

In Kiphire, the team held meetings with Sangtam and Tikhir leaders at Shamator with Yimchunger leaders and in Tuensang with Chang, Sangtam and Khiamniungan leaders.

The NPCC working president in a press note said, after hearing from all leaders from different tribes on the unrest in two districts, there was total collapse of state machinery to address the conflict situations and the apathy of the NPF led DAN government headed by Chief Minister TR Zeliang.
NPCC demanded the state government to enforce the rule of law to provide adequate security to people living under constant fear psychosis.

It also demanded immediate action on the memorandum/ charter of demands submitted by different tribe organisations without any fear or favour and to rein in tribal militias and confiscation of their weapons.

The NPCC demanded assistance to displaced people and for those injured/killed in conflicts and adequate compensation to properties damaged as many have lost their ‘lifelong earnings’ invested in building their living homes. The NPCC demanded a comprehensive action plan to prevent such conflicts in future.

“The present government has allowed the simmering issues to go out of hand by taking knee-jerk actions without going to the root causes. In becoming a mute spectator to the state of happenings, it has abdicated its responsibility towards the people and unless it acts upon the deteriorating situation, the so-called opposition-less government has no moral right to continue in the chair and preside over the destruction of the state.”
