Dimapur, Feb. 28: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Tuesday claimed that the NPF was headed for doom in Manipur. Assembly elections in Manipur begin on March 4 next.
The NPCC issued a press release on Tuesday stating the NPF was wasting people’s time and money in Manipur. “15 candidates of NPF know that they have no future either for their supporters or for their voters. They know they can never form the government alone in Manipur.
“People are also aware that the BJP has denied alliance with NPF in Manipur while NPF is senselessly talking against the Congress. This puts the Nagas of Manipur nowhere in the political arena. In politics, we must open opportunities for people to participate and get benefits. NPF’s politics has strangled the economy of Manipur,” it stated.
Progressive development, according to the NPCC, was a matter of service to the people. “One should not inject poison in the minds of people. Positive thinking is the way to progress. Peace and progress are always the objective of good politicians.”
It also stated that economic blockade was ‘bad thinking’. “Protests are a democratic process but starving people through economic blockade does not go well with humankind which includes infants, the sick and the old aged. Strangling the economy of humankind is not the way our religion teaches.”
There is no point, it added, in electing members to be in the opposition both in the state and in Delhi. “Rahul Gandhi is the best bet for the northeast,” it claimed.
In a separate press release, the NPCC asked the “recently deposed” chief minister TR Zeliang to ‘come clean on accusing some political elements of not wanting the Naga political problem to be solved.’
“He should publicly name those political elements posing hurdles rather than make a vague statement that is detrimental to the overall interest of the Nagas. The NPFs frustration is understandable given the fact that they have miserably failed on all fronts for the past 14 years of their rule,” it stated.
The plight of the people of Nagaland is getting endless day by day while the NPF government is simply unable to devote its time and resources unlike their political campaign beyond state borders, the NPCC stated. “At this juncture, we urge the NPF leaders to at least put a semblance of governance in the state for the next few months rather than attempting to shift blame on others for all their failures.”
