Dimapur, Oct. 14 (EMN): The Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) in its meeting on Wednesday decided that the NPCC will ‘stay away’ from the consultative meeting called by the state government on October 15 in Kohima, to discuss on the Naga political issue and ongoing peace talks between Naga national political organisations and government of India.

“‘The PAC was unanimous in its opinion that convening consultative meeting has become superfluous because it has been made clear by the negotiating parties that talks have successfully concluded on October 31  and after that, the interlocutor and governor has had series of consultative meetings with stakeholders, namely the 14 Nagaland tribe hoho’s, NGBF, civil societies and political parties. Governor and government of India have already a solution in their mind and we soon expect a final agreement to be signed,” stated a press statement.

The NPCC stated that it has already presented the present position of negotiation and stakeholders view to the high powered committee of the All India Congress Committee and leaders of Congress parliamentary committees in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for support to the views expressed by stakeholders.

“We have been reassured that Congress will stand with stakeholders in Parliament as and when the occasion arises,” it added.

“Since we are at the threshold of inking final agreement, we anticipate that the state government under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio will step down in favour of solution , which has been his commitment for the past seventeen years, and in which, he has never failed to remind the people of Nagaland while addressing every political or social gathering. We therefore urge Chief Minister Rio to uphold his commitment and avoid being an obstacle in paving way for a post solution arrangement,” it read.
