NPCC minority wing observes Rajiv Gandhi’s death anniversary
Dimapur, May 21 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) minority wing on Thursday observed 29th death anniversary of Rajiv Gandhi, by distributing ration and refreshments to the needy people in Dimapur.
According to an update, minority wing chairman and secretary the committee, Rajesh Kumar Sethi said the day is remembered as “Balidan Diwas” as Gandhi was assassinated at Sriperumbudur, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
“He brought computer revolution to our country when the main opposition BJP has opposed strongly stating it will lose lots of employment, but BJP’s vision failed drastically and we saw how computer has generated crore of employment and make nation independent and the self-reliant,” he said.
Citing how villages are empowered with constitution of Panchayati Raj all over India, he stated that it was the vision of a visionary leader.
He also pointed out how under Gandhi leadership higher education system has been upgraded and how today generation is is benefiting from it.
Sethi also mentioned how Gandhi dedicated his life towards empowering women and advocating for a more equal society.
Understanding the importance of women representation in India’s power structure he introduced the idea of 33% reservation for women in panchayats and Nagar Palikas, he said.
Further he stated that Gandhi saw the need, pain and aspirations of his countrymen and women and worked for the people with passion and compassion leading the nation into 21st century.
“Gandhi had a special connection with the people of Northeast. He understood how important identity, history, culture and language was for the region. Whether it’s Nagaland, Mizoram or Assam people remember him with fondness. His contribution in building modern India is unparalled. He was and will always remain a Gem of the Congress Party, “he maintained.
