Dimapur, May 14 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Friday hit back at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland state unit after the latter endorsed its national president JP Nadda’s letter to Congress counterpart Sonia Gandhi, accusing her party of creating “false panic” and “misleading” the people.

Nadda’s letter came after the Congress Working Committee hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government over the handling of the Covid-19 crisis. BJP Nagaland state unit on Thursday spoke in support of its party chief and accused the Congress of resorting to cheap political gimmicks to gain “undue mileage” out of the pandemic situation.

Responding to the development, the NPCC alleged that the BJP Nagaland office bearers conducted a press conference in Kohima amid lockdown by “flouting safety rules” just to parrot the content of Nadda’s letter and that it “deserves to be condemned”.

“We understand that the objective of the press conference was to spread positivity about Modi government which is in a freefall, unable to control the raging pandemic that has engulfed the nation, affecting people across all sections of the society,” read the press release from NPCC.

“While the opposition led by Congress has come forward to offer constructive suggestions to save the country from total catastrophe, the BJP true to its bloated ego led by PM Modi desperately wants to term the factual position and valid suggestion of Congress as false propaganda, which is totally uncalled for,” it added.

The party stated that the BJP government “laughed off” Rahul Gandhi’s warning in February last year about the pandemic but it had been “proven right on pandemic, migrant crisis, economic devastation, vaccine rollout policy and the deadly second wave”.

It took a pot-shot at the BJP, alleging that the party had “even declared ‘Corona endgame’ in March 2021 and congratulated PM Modi for defeating corona” and exported 6.60 crores of vaccine doses to more than 60 countries.

“The truth about devastation happening across the country is unfolding before our very own eyes and this cannot be simply brushed off to suit BJP’s narrative,” it stated.

“As part of PDA government, BJP Nagaland cannot absolve itself from the pitiable condition of our infrastructures and near total breakdown of state government machinery in dealing with shortage of vaccine, hospital beds, rising number of Covid cases and deaths across the state,” it added.

Reminding the state BJP “that it is futile to keep parroting the contents of their Delhi leaders while remaining oblivious to the death and sufferings happening all around”, the NPCC said that Nadda’s letter is to be treated with contempt.
