DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 2

DIMAPUR is poised to embrace total dawn to dusk shutdown on December 3 as the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has stepped up its agitation for resignation of Medical Minister Imkong L Imchen.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, NPCC president SI Jamir insisted that the party is determined to proceed with the proposed 12-hour bandh beginning 6 am to 6 pm in Dimapur district tomorrow (Tuesday). Stating that the crux of the agitation was for removal of the Medical Minister, SI Jamir asserted that his party will persist on its demand till the goal is achieved.PCC president also added that similar bandh will be enforced in other districts of the State in phased manner in coordination with the divisional units.
State Congress youth president Kughato Aye told this reporter that the proposed bandh will be enforced on peaceful democratic principle. To ensure peaceful bandh, Kughato Aye has solicited support and cooperation of the public during the bandh. He added that there will be free movement of pedestrians except for motor vehicles.
It may be mentioned here that NPCC had launched a statewide poster campaign on November 27 followed by sit-in dharna infront of the Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima, on November 29.
NPCC has been demanding for resignation of the Imkong L Imchen after he was caught by Assam Rifles in Wokha district on February 18 with cash over Rs 1 crore, illegal arms and ammunitions and liquor during the run-up to the State election.
NPCC had, on November 13, submitted separate representation to the State Governor and the Chief Minister demanding for the removal of Imkong L Imchen.
Meanwhile, NPF Dimapur Division has strongly condemned the bandh called by the NPCC in Dimapur on December 3, while calling upon all right thinking citizens to protest “this unethical and illogical decision taken by a responsible political party.”
In a statement issued by its Media Cell, NPF Dimapur Division has questioned the decision of the NPCC to call for a bandh in Dimapur as the incident in question did not occurred in Dimapur. It said citizens of Dimapur cannot be held to ransom for something they are not even remotely connected.
Terming the proposed bandh as an outrageous act of harassment to the citizens of Dimapur, NPF Dimapur division queried what wrongs the citizens of Dimapur had done to be harassed in this manner? While stating that people deserve a better treatment, the statement said the act only goes to show the frustration of the NPCC unleashing on the people of Dimapur in the most unbecoming manner.
“The NPCC is trying to project itself as a saviour by calling a bandh but it should not forget that by doing so it is ripping off the liberty of all the citizens of Dimapur by imposing their dictate upon the innocent citizens and the ever struggling business communities,” the statement added.
Mentioning that December being a festive month, it should not be marred by such unpleasant situation, untold hardships and harassment. It has urged all people to voice out and protest against this dictatorial behaviour of the NPCC.
