NPCC demands JPC probe into Adani bribery case
DIMAPUR — Describing the alleged bribery case involving Gautam Adani as a big issue, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded full investigation from the Joint Parliamentary Committees (JPC).
Addressing a press conference on Friday at Congress Bhavan in Dimapur, Yanger Longkumer, chairman of NPCC communication Committee, and Andrew Humtsoe, NPCC media coordinator, stated that the report given by Security Exchange Commission (SEC) in the US alleging that Adani and its associates have given bribes to five state governments in India totaling to an amount of INR 2000 crores from 2020-2024 was not only a serious matter but a big embarrassment to the Prime Minister of India as “he maintains a close relation with Adani and his companies.”
The states that have been mentioned are Chattisgarh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
They claimed that many contracts and country’s assets including airports, railways and roads were given to Adani under the watchful eyes of Prime Minister. They opined that the allegations also raised serious concerns about independence at the treatability of agencies which are supposed to investigate especially Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
The officials claimed that apart from the SEBI, they have seen in the last 10 years how investigative agencies and IT department were pro-active when they are targeting opposition leaders. They have also questioned the credibility of investigation agencies as why the indictment came from a foreign country and not from India.
They asserted that the common people should be concern of the issue as it is not only bringing bad reputation to the country but also an illegal issue which directly affects the people of the country, who are the consumers.
From the bribes given out, they earn it back from the pockets of the common people, they alleged.
