NPCC chief urges students to be ambassador against corruption
DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 11 : Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie, urged the students to be ambassadors against corruption and bribery and iterated that all rank and file of NPCC would continue to fight against corruption and bribery.
Addressing the students of Pfütsero Government College on September 9, Therie stressed that sense of belonging and participation of all stakeholders in making a vibrant State Assembly is the need of hour so that every problem is discussed in the State Assembly and addressed through directives of the State Assembly.
He underlined that sense of belonging of public funds is of utmost importance towards curbing corruption and ensuring that funds are optimally utilised for the intended purposes.
While claiming that bribery and corruption have become a vicious cycle in Nagaland, he said the youth, who constitutes the most important stakeholder in the State, have an important role in changing society and the Electoral College towards electing a clean God-fearing government.
Stating that the future of the State and every individual is interdependent, Therie said another wrong step would be a fall to be stamped upon by the 7.4billion World population of today leaving us too late to catch up with the rest. He further urged the gathering to be ambassadors in changing the present perception by exhibiting and living in a true Christian spirit.
Therie also exhorted the students to set goals and work towards achievement them. For this, he said it is important that they venture out but with skill and competency. He said nothing to stop one if there is determination and hard work. Making an empirical analogy, he said choosing a profession or business is like drawing a bucket of water from an ocean which will not dry out because of taking that one bucket.
“We deserve equal and ample opportunities. When you are done with education and come back home and you don’t find a job; when ‘free and fair’ justice and equality are found missing; when bias and backdoor appointment are the only way; you will realise the reality of the situation. You will regret but it may be too late,” Thrie said adding given opportunity, the Congress would create opportunities for employment and accelerate growth of the economy in a free and fair environment.
Therie also quoted Sir Winston Churchill’s statement on May 24, 1942, in the debate of Indian Independence who said, “Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues, freebooters; all Indian leaders will be of low caliber and men of straw. They will have sweet tongues and silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for power and India will be lost in political squabbles. A day would come when even air and water would be taxed in India.”
Adding that Pfütsero area, surrounded by virgin forests, enjoys a super, nature gifted climate with vegetation that no other place would taste and inhabited by hardworking people, Therie said the region has immense potential to develop various types of tourism, which in turn could stimulate the growth of other allied sectors in the service industry.
Therie also touched on aspects of the NPCC Roadmap and said given opportunity, the Congress would deliver the vision as declared therein and in the Election Manifesto for the upcoming 2018 general elections.
