EMN DIMAPUR, APRIL 26 Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has called president of BJP, Nagaland unit Dr M Chuba as RSS apologist and accused the latter of ‘parroting the concept of Congress free NLA to impose the hegemony of BJP-RSS agenda in the state that dictates the people on what not to eat (beef consumption) and what to believe and subscribe even on matters of faith’. NPCC in a press statement said when ‘RSS apologist like Dr M Chuba’ desperately wants to hog the limelight through print media, he forgets that his statement are only wishful thinking bereft of reality such as Congress free NLA. It stated that for someone who is yet to understand the nuances of electoral politics by so far shying away from even contesting a single election since he has no political roots, it is simply a case of random barking to stay relevant in state politics and attract the attention of his communal masters in Delhi. “For the information of Dr Chuba and his ghost writer, there is an NPF led government in Nagaland and not BJP led government as they mistakenly believe with only a single Legislator in NLA since the case of three defectors joining BJP from NCP is yet to be settled by the Supreme Court. Moreover, the Congress had rescued TR Zeliang government on the request and appeal made by Chief Minister TR Zeliang, NPF President Dr Shurhozelie and NPF secretary general KG Kenye to provide stability and deny foothold to communal forces. These three NPF leaders are a living witness and will bear testimony as to how they needed the crucial support of Congress to stay afloat when the dissident campers with all out support from BJP desperately tried every trick in the book to dislodge TR Zeliang as Chief Minister,” said the NPCC statement. According to the statement, unlike the political vulgarism displayed by the state BJP which flip flopped countless times with free for all contradicting statements emanating from all its leaders that compounded the NPF crisis, the Congress had maintained a disciplined approach and had stepped in to save the state from heading towards constitutional crisis due to prolonged political uncertainty. “It must be remembered that before Confidence motion vote took place on Feb 5, the political equation was 27 legislators (NPF-22, BJP-4, IND-1) with Noke-Kaito group and only 25 legislators (NPF-16, IND-7, NCP-1, JD(U)-1) supporting Chief Minister TR Zeliang,” said NPCC. According to the NPCC press note, when Congress with 8 legislators decided to throw its weight behind TR Zeliang taking the total number to 33, the BJP was cornered without any options but to vote for TR Zeliang government at the last minute, a move that is now being hailed as their strategy as face saving measure when their strategy to dislodge TR Zeliang badly misfired. “It is pertinent to mention that between January and till first week of February, Dr Chuba had approached the Congress leaders to join BJP and to lead the coalition government with the dissident NPF group but his request was flatly turned down since the Congress cannot compromise on its principles and the rights of the Nagas. Hence, Dr Chuba’s frustration with Congress is understandable but that does not give him the liberty to senselessly bark around,” the NPCC note stated. According to the statement, the Congress had never rooted for party-less government but is simply waiting for both the Chief Minister and the NPF president to honour their commitment when they sought our crucial support. Therefore, by asking Congress to join the government as a non Congress entity, Dr Chuba has exceeded his brief and for which he is advised to speak within his limits as it is none of his business in the first place. Other than propagating and spreading the ideology of RSS in the state, political wanderers like Dr Chuba must answer as to what contribution he has done for the state. When he talks about the UPA government not solving the Naga political issue from 2004-2014, then what was the BJP led NDA government contribution while in power from 1998-2004 other than merely talk about recognizing the uniqueness of Naga History to humour some main stakeholders. “As the BJP talks about solution within 18 months, they must realize that any solution to the Naga political issue will have to be realized through the constitutional amendment and that the BJP alone can never have its way if it continues to live in fool’s paradise by ignoring the opposition parties. Any solution without constitutional amendment will only be a piecemeal solution that will have no logical conclusion,” the NPCC statement further said. The NPCC then said that the people of Nagaland must realize that BJP party’s mission of Congress free India is nothing but a mission of imposing their authoritarian regime without any opposition parties. “The Congress in Nagaland has placed the interest of the people above everything to defeat the onslaught of communal forces who are currently at our doors patronized by few visionless leaders without any political moorings like Dr Chuba who are ready to disown their own upbringing and beliefs in their quest for sharing the spoils of power,” it added.
