DIMAPUR — Nagaland Congress has held the state government of the day fully responsible for the unfortunate situation at hand stating that the cancerous culture of extortion plaguing the Naga society today was neither a recent phenomenon nor simple case of governance deficit but an outcome of the willful and total abdication of constitutional responsibilities by the current regime since the day it came to power some two decades ago.
A press release issued by the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) through its communication department has expressed solidarity with the Dimapur Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) in their fight against the scourge of rampant extortions and multiple taxations.
“We acknowledge the untold sufferings of the business community in Dimapur as well as in other parts of the state as they are bled dry day in day out financially, as well as psychologically, right under the very nose of the incumbent government.
“We also sympathise with the common people for having had to face so much inconveniences not just due to the ongoing shutter down agitation by the business community, but for the decades that they were forced to shoulder the bulk of the burden raised by the menace of these unabated illegal taxations,” the statement read.
While holding the government of the day fully responsible for the unfortunate situation at hand, NPCC point out that the cancerous culture of extortion plaguing the Naga society today was neither a recent phenomenon nor a simple case of governance deficit but is an outcome of the willful and total abdication of constitutional responsibilities by the current regime since the day it came to power some two decades ago.
In light of the above stated circumstances, NPCC demanded the state government of the day to take strong and concrete measures to ensure that the issue was addressed promptly for good. It also implored upon the business community to reconsider the indefinite nature of their agitation, keeping in view the possible compounding of the hardships borne by the populace.
Meanwhile, the NPCC president, S Supongmeren Jamir, has congratulated the new office bearers of Ao Senden. He has wished wisdom and sagacity as they take on the responsibility of representing the voice of the Ao community and continue the rich legacy of service and sacrifices left behind by their predecessors.
