DIMAPUR — With objective to create awareness on effective disposal of wastes, a team from Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB) conducted an awareness programme on waste management in Tening town under Peren district on March 14.

The programme was organised by NPCB, in collaboration with Tening Town Council (TTC) with Yanathung Kithan, NPCB scientist as the resource person. Addressing the gathering, Kithan stressed the importance of proper segregation and disposal of dry and wet wastes for healthy environment.

He encouraged the gathering to reduce single-use products especially plastic substances and to recycle or reuse things other than disposing of so as to help reduce waste from landfill which would eventually prevent land, water and air pollution, stated a DIPR report.

He also spoke on the duties of various authorities to reduce pollution as well as on Nagaland integrated waste management policy and its visions and waste management rules and National green tribunal orders.
