Dimapur, July 15 (EMN): The Dhansiri River Flood Control Board (DRFCB) has once again raised concern over the ongoing construction of a suspension bridge near the Old Dhansiri Bridge, connecting Purana Bazaar and Urban Haat.
“That the foundation pillar on Purana Bazaar side has been haphazardly built on loose soil since the workers initially dug an extra soil of 6 feet deep which was refilled with loose soil and pebbles with cemented topping. Owing to these, the foundation base has been completely washed away (as seen in the photograph) thus exposing the poor workmanship which will lead to another disaster like the 4th Mile Chathe River Bridge”, stated a press release from the board. According to the DRFCB, “technical officers, departmental officers or contractor” engaged at the project were ‘almost absent and do not sincerely supervise the work’. “Thus, the labourers work on their own half-baked knowledge ultimately resulting in negligence like this instant case.
“Therefore, the DRFCB urges the contractor concerned to immediately reconstruct the said foundation pillar without compromising quality so as to avoid another tragedy”, it stated.
