Dimapur, April 6 (EMN): The Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) has asserted that its demand for termination of alleged backdoor appointments in Nagaland Police is not an attempt to target a particular tribe or political party.
In a statement issued on Monday, the union maintained that it is high time for Nagas to ‘knock out the tendency of tribalism feelings’.
‘Say for instance, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton is in charge of Home and NTUCT is against the corruption in his department, which does not reflect or portray that we are against the Lothas just because he is a Lotha,’ it stated.
The union went on to state that ‘certain student union and tribal hoho’ alleging those organisations, unions, associations and federations fighting against backdoor appointment as ‘targeting only a particular department, which exposed apparent vested interest and ill intention’, was unfortunate.
It pointed out that there are many other organisations, associations, unions and federations fighting against corruption in the state.
“Are all these for vested interest and only targeting a particular department? Can we still say that all these are a fight for vested interest and targeting a particular department? Let us develop positive mindset and let the good sense prevail upon the Nagas,” read the statement.
The union stated that it has not received any positive response from either the state government or the head of the department on its demand. “Had it not been for Covid-19 lockdown, we are left with no other option but to approach the court of law to seek justice which we tried to avoid lest a lawmaker and some senior police officers shall surely face legal consequences.”
It appealed to the state government and the Home department to immediately “respond to the people’s demand” during the lockdown period, and also urged Patton to direct the DGP to cancel all backdoor appointments “if he is really innocent as claimed”.
