Northeastern artisans attend International Hospitality Expo

Dimapur, Aug. 14 (EMN): A total of 10 entrepreneurs/ artisans from North Eastern States have participated at the four-day second edition of India International Hospitality Expo (IHE) held from August 7 to 10 at India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida Expressway.
Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) with the support of office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, has arranged participation of ten entrepreneurs/artisans from NE states in IHE – 2019, stated Vilekhoto Pusa from EPCH Kohima in an update.

He stated that the participation of artisans provided an unparalleled opportunity for marketing and selling as well as to generate awareness in the market of the various crafts produced by the craftsperson from the North Eastern Region Craft Clusters. He stated that the participation created domestic market for the artisans and awareness about the handicrafts sector amongst the visitors adding it also strengthened market linkages between marketers and craft producers.

He said the products showcased during the participation were in a manner to provide an opportunity to expose the handicrafts of the country in a better way before the domestic visitors as well as foreigners visiting the country. The participants were provided all support related to their participation like display of products, interior and exterior of the theme pavilion etc, the statement added.

The participants were of the view that participation in such events would increase the market opportunity for local artisans/ craftsperson and entrepreneurs of North Eastern Region. They were optimistic that display of variety and exclusive products would create awareness in buyers and exporters about new products and design of the region.

The statement also stated that artisans/ craftsperson and entrepreneurs have received an opportunity to experience the participation in international fair and to meet directly with the buyers and understand their requirement and taste.

During interaction with the established exporters and buyers, the artisans were motivated to become entrepreneurs, it added.
