Northeast Zonal National Basketball championship: Nagaland cruise past Tripura 134-52
Dimapur, Dec. 19 (EMN): Nagaland defeated Tripura in the third match of the Northeast Zonal National Basketball championship by 134-52 points on Sunday.
Seyie Kire and Keneingutuo Kevin topped the scoring charts with 33 points and 27 points respectively, a press release informed.
Assam defeated host team Meghalaya 104-65, while Mizoram got the better of Manipur team 95-64 in a nail-biting match.
In the last match of the day, Manipur put up a spirited fight in the first three quarters of the game but Assam’s experienced players eventually prevailed over the fighting Manipur ballers by 92-69 points.
The tournament is being organised by the Basketball Federation of India (BFI) to promote the game across the country. The zonal/regional championship is held in the five zones — North, South, East, West and Northeast — for the Senior National Basketball Championship (Men and Women), it said.
Meghalaya is hosting the inaugural edition of the Northeast zone this year.
