DIMAPUR — NorthEast United FC secured a convincing 5–0 victory against Jamshedpur FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024–25 on Saturday evening.
This victory marks the club’s biggest win in ISL history and the first time they have scored five goals in a match in the competition.
The Juan Pedro Benali-coached team took the lead five minutes into the game with an opening strike from Alaaeddine Ajaraie. Two minutes later, Mohammed Bemammer assisted Ajaraie, who was in the right goal-scoring position, to double the Highlanders’ lead.
Eze received a second yellow card just before the half-hour mark, turning the tide of the match. Following this, Benali’s men maintained a stronghold over the flow of the game.
An update mentioned that NorthEast United FC have unearthed a gem in Parthib Gogoi, who scored a brace to reach 10 ISL goals — the most by any player in the league before turning 22.
He made a run inside the box and connected perfectly with Ajaraie’s squared pass, slotting it into the bottom right corner in the 44th minute. Ten minutes into the second half, Jithin MS turned provider for Gogoi, finding him in an excellent position inside the box. Gogoi did not disappoint, placing the ball into the top left corner to triple the team’s lead.
Substitute Macarton Nickson made an instant impact, joining the goal-scoring frenzy by slotting the ball into the top right corner from the edge of the box, assisted by Hamza Regragui, in the 82nd minute.
Ajaraie wrapped up the proceedings by scoring the fifth goal of the game in the 90th minute.
NorthEast United FC will next play against Odisha FC on November 3, while Jamshedpur FC are set to face Chennaiyin FC the following day, November 4.
