Northeast insurgents committed 178 crimes in 2021; more than 1000 cadres surrendered

Dimapur, Aug. 31 (EMN): A total of 178 crimes were committed by Northeast (NE) insurgents in 2021 as per the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2021 report, issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The report stated that out of the total number of crimes committed by NE insurgents, 136 crimes were in Manipur, 20 in Assam, seven each in Meghalaya and Nagaland, five in Delhi, two in Tripura and one in Bihar.

Meanwhile, in Assam there were two murder cases, four attempt to murder, five extortion, eight unlawful activities, and one Explosive Substance Act.

In Bihar, there was one murder case; one rape case and two other IPC crimes in Delhi; three extortion and four Arms Act cases in Nagaland; 136 unlawful activities cases in Manipur; one unlawful activities and one Arms Act case in Tripura; and six unlawful activities cases and one Explosive Substance Act case in Meghalaya.

The data showed that under incidents of violence by NE insurgents, 81 cases were registered, out of which six incidents were through telephone exchange or tower, four incidents on school buildings, 28 incidents on economic establishments, and three attacks on other establishments.

It was also reported that there were three casualties involving death of civilians, while 10 insurgents were killed, 111 insurgents arrested including three females; and 1,133 insurgents surrendered including 20 females.
