- DIMAPUR — The Northeast Frontier Railway has
successfully traced 528 mobile phones with the help of the Central Equipment
Identity Register (CEIR) portal between April 20, 2024, and April 7, 2025.
- According to an official statement, 109 of the traced phones
were recovered through coordinated operations carried out by the Railway
Protection Force (RPF) in partnership with other concerned authorities. The
recovered phones were returned to their rightful owners.
- In addition to the recoveries, the drive also resulted in
the arrest of 21 individuals found to be involved in the theft or illegal
possession of mobile devices. These arrests mark a crucial step in deterring
mobile-related crimes and disrupting unlawful resale networks, the update
stated.
- The use of the CEIR portal has enabled the railway
authorities to improve their responsiveness in addressing complaints related to
lost or stolen mobile phones, reinforcing the role of technology in public service
and safety, it said.
- Further, the NFR has urged passengers to report lost or
stolen phones through the Rail Madad portal for timely assistance.
